Wesley Park platted Auburn in 1836, and it became the seat of DeKalb County in 1837, but its lasting character comes from the Auburn Automobile Company -- founded around 1903 by Frank and Morris Eckhart -- which operated until bankruptcy in 1937. The company's art-deco headquarters, now the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum, became a National Historic Landmark in 2005.
